Sun Valley has been developed by the Ninh Binh tourist area not long ago. It is located about 5 minutes by motorbike from Bich Dong. Unlike the hustle and bustle of Tam Coc, this place is quieter and more pristine. The lake’s surface is vast, deep blue, and surrounded by high, rolling rocky mountains.
Local people often refer to it as the ‘Valley,’ meaning flooded lowlands surrounded by rocky mountains, and each such valley has its own name. Previously, during the dry season, local people could grow rice throughout the valley. Still, now, due to tourism investment and development, the local government has built a dam to prevent the water from receding. As a result, visitors can enjoy the area any season of the year.
From Thach Bich wharf, a small bamboo boat will take you around the mountains to a sunny valley that locals call the Sunny Valley. As the name suggests, the sun shines everywhere, through the branches and leaves, through the rustic thatched roofs along the shore, even down to the bottom of the water, creating a brilliant and peaceful scene. The deeper you go, the more beautiful the scenery is, and the more numerous and diverse the cave system is. There are places where you have to bow your head very low to avoid touching the stalactites above the cave ceiling. There are places where you have to look up very high to capture all the mystery that nature bestows on this place.
Each of these valleys can be connected to each other by a system of caves running through the mountain. When the boat passes through the cave, taking you from one valley to another, the scenery that opens up ahead seems more beautiful and charming. On days when there is a light breeze, you can even hear the sound of reed flutes blowing from the outside. Reeds grow wild along the shore.
